It’s still an hour to go, but congratulations Red Sox. Makes me wish I liked baseball!
The NFL needs a mercy rule. That fourth quarter was barely fun to watch. I watched anyhow of course.
Forget the Super Bowl, the real Super Bowl is next week. I’ve been drooling for Pats Colts, the only games that matter.
Seriously, there’s the Pats and the Colts and a bunch of runner-ups.
The NFC is pathetic. The Redskins probably thought they were a pretty good team at 4-2. They were not. They were just another team that isn’t the Pats or Colts.
I have a mancrush on Wes Welker. Oh, those blue eyes! And perfect blocks!
Maroney is back, Seymour is back. It seems mathematically impossible, but we just keep getting better. Is there an upper limit here?
What does it take for teams to defend Vrabel on that same touchdown play we’ve seen again and again? When he’s in on offense, cover him. How hard is that? Looks at his line. 3 sacks, each leading to fumbles, each recovered by the Pats. A touchdown reception. He’s caught 10 passes in his career, and they’ve all been for touchdowns. By the way, he’s a defensive player. I can understand your confusion.

Other thoughts:
* The AFC Championship game could be a 16-0 vs a 15-1.
* The Pats had a #1 draft pick taken away. Thanks to trades, they’ll end up better, with San Francisco’s #1 pick.
* I’ve decided that even though the Patriots margin of victory is bigger than the Colts, it doesn’t matter. The Colts have a slightly tougher schedule, and they haven’t tried to score more once the game is won, so I’m not considering that a factor.
The good vs. evil thing has been played up a lot by Gregg Easterbrook, aka Tuesday Morning Quarterback. Today, he said he was just kidding about it. Then said that the since that Pats wouldn’t take Brady out of the game, Redskins should have with an all-out blitz.
It was pretty weird. His beef against Bellichick isn’t about the quality of the team, his strategy, or the morality of his players. It’s poor sportsmanship. Then he says the Redskins should have injured him on purpose. Bizarre.
I agree, the NFL season has come down to two games — one is next week, to decide home field advantage for when the same two teams play again in the AFC Championship to decide the title.
I wonder if the marketing and pre-hype for the game will pit Good vs. Evil. I was listening to an NFL talk show last week and they thought this point would be played up — Mr. Good Dungy, squeaky clean and great image, vs. Mr. Evil Belichick, who does not mind (and even might enjoy) being played up as a Mr. Evil.
It seems like a lot bigger game for the Colts than the Pats. At least I could envision the Pats winning a playoff game in Indianapolis. If the Colts lose and then have to go to New England for the Championship game, it’s hard to see them winning, despite last year’s results.
Of course, as an envious Raider fan, my season has boiled down to “what the hell does it take to get another high draft pick around here?” Sad.
