Here’s another New York Times gem, “Liberal Base Proves Trying to Democrats”
The first thing that comes to mind is where’s the other article? The one talking about how the complete nutjobs on the right are such a pain to the GOP? Anyhow, so most of the article is about liberal idiots who think Barney Frank isn’t gay enough, or don’t like Pelosi’s alleged hypocrisy about the farm bill.
And then they slide this little nugget in:
The tension between Democratic lawmakers and their base has been most visible on the Iraq war, where the insistence by some of the most outspoken antiwar groups on setting hard deadlines for the withdrawal of American troops has often handcuffed Senate Democrats trying to reach a bipartisan deal on legislation to change the war strategy.
The majority of the country wants to end the Iraq war, and get us out. A pretty big majority. The majority want hard deadlines. This is what’s “trying” to the Democrats? That implies carrying out the wishes of the country is an annoyance.
This is where the pressure comes from. Not the liberal base, the entire frickin’ country! Honestly, how hard is this to figure out?
I agree completely. Thats what was so frustrating about reading the article. None of those involved showed any remorse, or believed there was any wrong-doing.
Or even seemed to think it really mattered.
Which is moronic on a number of levels, if only because Gore wouldn’t have taken us into Iraq.
I think that some in the media view the idea of ‘freedom of the press’ as ‘no need for a conscience’ or ‘I can do whatever I want’.
btw, did you hear the smackdown Pete Stark gave the Repubilcans and Bush?
The sad part is the lack of accountability. I haven’t read the Vanity Fair article, but I’ll bet the writer is every bit as respected as ever.
Everyone who was against the Iraq War before it started has been marginalized. Those who supported it, even though they were obviously wrong, have not lost an ounce of prestige.
what do you expect? The fact is, the media has been the bitch of the Right. There’s a fantastic vanity fair article on how they screwed Gore.
Goes something like this:
VA: So you made stuff up, changed quotes, things like that?
Reporter: Yes.
VA: And that doesn’t bother you?
Reporter: Well, it was entertaining, made for interesting news, and it was just the thing to do at the time. Plus, I didn’t like Gore.
no
shame
Why are there so many news/politics blogs?
Because, as Jon Stewart says, the mainsteram media has completely abdicated its responsibility
